How do perceptions of Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination differ between adolescent boys and girls in London, and what factors shape these views?
This summer, I'll be researching uptake of the HPV vaccination in the adolescent population in London, with the School of Public Health at Imperial.
My aim is to understand more about the barriers and enablers in adolescent boys and girls, to see if we can increase uptake to meet national benchmarks. This is important to reduce cervical cancer incidence, and vaccinating against HPV almost eliminates the incidence in women under 30.
There are many reasons as to why people may not take vaccinations, ranging from misinformation to cultural and political beliefs. Its important to understand what views are had in this particular age group, as this could influence future uptake of other vaccines, and future epidemiology.
