A week in Sydney at Global Health Security 2024
I recently had the opportunity to travel to the 2024 Global Health Security conference, held in Sydney, Australia, to present my Laidlaw research project on the relationship between climate variables and Shigella infections in Texas. Travelling with the team at the Georgetown Center for Global Health Science and Security, I connected with a wide variety of global health professionals from around the world, from the Associate Director of the Field Epidemiology and Training Program in Kenya to the Australian Ambassador for Global Health, and gained insight into the directions that working in global health could take me. I attended workshops with the Global Health Advocacy Incubator and the Health Intelligence & Biosecurity lab at KCL, building skills in public health communications and biosecurity intelligence analysis.
On my off time, I also had the chance to catch a concert at the Sydney Opera House, go to karaoke in Chinatown, and visit the Taronga Zoo with the CGHSS team. I couldn't be more thankful to be surrounded by such talented, smart, and helpful colleagues, and I don't think there was a better way to kick off my Leadership in Action project!
