My research is defined by one moment: the first time a parent says goodbye and the door clicks shut. This summer, I’m excited to explore adult and institutional definitions of “separation” in childcare and parenting, and whether those definitions actually support developmental research and help children thrive.

That's the question I get to chase around New York all summer, hopping between daycares and talking to parents, teachers, and directors about what they think a "good goodbye" really looks like. I'm eager and slightly nervous to learn how to navigate IRB, conduct research interviews, and write a full research paper on my findings. Outside of the classroom and study cafes, I’m looking forward to walking the length of Manhattan, exploring new jazz clubs, and eating my way through the city!
