Throughout the summer, I have conducted a research project under the supervision of Dr Laura Patel, a principal teaching fellow in the Department of Chemistry at Imperial, parts of my findings have been summarised in this poster.

The inspiration behind this is based on my personal lived experience of seeing a lack of sustainability being taught as a chemistry student and based on my passion for education in general. This was the perfect opportunity to investigate something that I genuinely care about and to work on self-proposed research.

The outcome of my project is only but a start to more research that needs to be done, so that it could be implemented. So far, we at least now know the opinions of many students from the chemistry department what their hopes and wishes are in terms of including sustainability into the curriculum. The next step would be solidifying the staff’s opinions on this matter and grasp what barriers they have faced, to complete the understanding and to come up with a concrete plan for change.
