Laidlaw Research Poster
I am delighted to share that my research poster, Digitality and Deceit: The ECtHR’s Future in Approaching Digital Electoral Mis/Dis/Malinformation from Social Media Users, is published within this post. This marks the conclusion of my Laidlaw research period at Durham University, under the supervision of Dr Dimitrios Kagiaros.
My project explored the growing challenge of digital electoral misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation, and the role of the European Court of Human Rights in balancing the right to freedom of expression with the protection of free and fair elections. Recent cases, including Bradshaw v UK, highlight how the Court is beginning to tackle these issues in the digital age. Through my research, I mapped the existing case law, derived the key principles, and suggested areas where the Court could clarify its definitions.
While this phase of my research has concluded, I am excited to continue my engagement with these questions in academic and professional contexts. I look forward to attending the Laidlaw Scholars European Conference in October to discuss this work further, and to exploring future opportunities to build on the themes of digital democracy, rights protection, and the regulation of online spaces.
