Fashioning Germanness: Colonialism and Modernity at the 1896 Berlin World Fair
This research essay analyses the spatial hierarchy of the 1896 Berlin world fair, revealing different temporalities which were mobilised to forge cosmopolitan Germanness - defined in opposition to images of the colonial, through locating the colonial in an artificial past.
