Research Proposal - Elastocapillarity: An investigation into the distances and forces between membrane-bound and membrane-less organelles within living cells.

I am in the first year of my scholarship, working under the supervision of Dr Kusumaatmaja. Here is my research proposal which was drafted before my research took place. A lot has changed since then, particularly the methodology being used (I am now helping to build our own program).

Alexander John Lea

Student studying Physics and Chemistry, Durham University

Laidlaw Research and Leadership Scholar. Third year undergraduate student at Durham university, studying for a Master's in physics and chemistry. The aim of my research project is to develop a computational model to determine the forces and distances between membrane-bound and membrane-less organelles within cells. This research will provide a quantitative insight into the organisation within cells, which may have important consequences in our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s disease. Outside of my studies I enjoy board-games, hill-walking and science outreach.
