Week 6 LiA Reflection + Overview

Some final thoughts to a very fulfilling experience working for a cause I am passionate about.

My time at The Zubin Foundation has been nothing short of transformative. As I look back on this, it really changed my perspectives on privilege and responsibility in our society, and a profound sense of purpose. The days flew by, and my internship was coming to a close. I was not ready for it to end, as  I was really happy to be working for a cause that I am very passionate about.

The recent fundraiser dinner exemplified this, providing a unique platform to interact with an array of stakeholders that are involved in the works of the organization, from generous donors and sponsors to individuals whose lives are impacted by our work. It was heartwarming to see the varied ethnic backgrounds among the donors, reflecting the unity and commitment to make a difference.

At the dinner, I was moved by the stories shared by those directly affected by our initiatives. One narrative involved the care we provide to children undergoing palliative treatment. The funds raised contribute to vital projects, enabling these children to attend weekly English and Cantonese classes, as well as subjects like mathematics. Witnessing the tangible impact of our efforts filled me with a sense of responsibility to advocate for these causes.

Interacting with stakeholders from numerous cultural backgrounds has enriched my understanding and heightened my cultural sensitivity. This experience has empowered me to embrace collaboration and foster connections, enhancing my ability to work alongside individuals from diverse walks of life.

Reflecting on my leadership development, I recognize substantial growth since the start of my internship. Initially, my goal was to cultivate self-awareness and environmental consciousness while leading with purpose. Throughout my time here, I learned the importance of being proactive and actively engaging in various projects beyond my assigned role in the youths and opportunities team. I ventured out of my comfort zone, questioning and seeking clarity where needed, a significant shift from my previous tendency to remain reserved and passive.

After attending a leadership workshop, I took it upon myself to provide constructive feedback to the staff, reinforcing my commitment to collaborative learning. This journey has taught me that true leadership lies in a proactive and inclusive approach, fostering an environment where everyone feels valued and empowered.

The impact of my work with The Zubin Foundation will resonate with me for years to come. I never anticipated being entrusted with such significant responsibilities, and this empowerment has ignited a lasting inspiration within me. The emotional connection I have to this cause drives me to pour my heart into every task, whether summarizing impact reports or volunteering directly with clients.

Looking ahead, I am excited to continue my journey with The Zubin Foundation through the end of this year, focusing on implementing a new project aimed at supporting the siblings and mothers of children with special educational needs. This initiative is close to my heart, as it seeks to strengthen bonds of mutual care and support within families, fostering a community of resilience and responding to the emotional needs.

In conclusion, my time at The Zubin Foundation has not only deepened my passion for social justice but also equipped me with essential leadership skills and a network of inspiring individuals. I am eager to carry these lessons forward, knowing that the work we do creates ripples of change in the community and beyond.
