This year, we are thrilled to welcome 26 new Laidlaw Scholars into the programme. Representing all faculties across the university, the new cohort reflects the diversity, curiosity, and ambition that define the Laidlaw experience. The event offered a first opportunity for the 2026 scholars to meet current scholars, alumni, and staff, and to begin building the connections that will shape their journeys.
A highlight of the evening was the showcase of research posters from the 2025 cohort, illustrating the breadth and impact of undergraduate research at Leeds. From tackling global health challenges to exploring sustainability, technology, and social justice, the work on display demonstrated both intellectual rigour and a commitment to meaningful change.
The event also recognised scholars completing their time on the programme, celebrating not only their research accomplishments but also their personal growth and future ambitions—spanning careers in academia, the civil service, business, and the charitable sector.
The evening highlighted the vital roles played by:
- Academic supervisors, who guide research and development
- Faculty facilitators and central teams, who support the programme’s delivery
- Alumni and current scholars, who contribute to a culture of mentorship and collaboration
More than just a celebration, the event marked the beginning of a new chapter for the 2026 cohort. As they embark on their research and leadership journeys, they do so within a vibrant and supportive community—one that values curiosity, collaboration, and impact.
To our new scholars: welcome to the Laidlaw community. We look forward to seeing the ideas you explore, the questions you ask, and the difference you will make.
