The research project focuses on the Far Right identity and their strategies. One of the main aims is to find out how the past can influence present politics, using perceived heroes, influential figures, memories and loyalty to the far-right identity. Research will also focus on how each party gains influence using the past. The project has funding to look at two countries: the UK and Argentina. The two parties being researched are called UKIP, from the UK, and La Libertad Avanza, from Argentina. Twitter account and party manifestos have already been analysed, so the project is looking to expand upon this, thinking about how to present the analysis. The research team are looking to expand the project past the scope of the UK and Argentina, with a funding proposal at the end of the initial project. I will be creating a resource using primary resources created by or about the far-right (UKIP and Britain First in particular). They will be analysed and evaluated for references to the past and how this impacts their strategy and overall representation. On top of this, I am organising a symposium, bringing together academics and charities who have worked around this topic, to further my knowledge; create a dialogue between the public, academics and charities; and to gauge their interest in the project going forward. My research is going well so far and I’m excited to see where it goes, so let me know if anyone is doing anything similar and wants to discuss! |
