Research Days 25-30

the penultimate week!

It's been a very busy and productive week! I'm feeling tired now but I've got a lot done! I've mainly been organizing my data and finalising my research questions so that on Monday I can run my stats. If anything this project has taught me to update my excel skills!

I finish next Wednesday so I will do a big project round up, strengths and weakness then. As well as posting my research questions and some results!

On Monday:

  • coded 4 failed trials
  • some of my stats had been exported - started going over the spreadsheets and doing some rough organisation
  • started finalizing my data plans

On Tuesday:

  • finalized all my data plans and research questions (when my supervisor checks over them I'll post them!)
  • worked on what I needed for my final data extraction on Friday
  • Organised my data so that I can import it into SPSS
  • sorted out the trials that needed manually editing
  • worked some more on my presentation for next Wednesday

On Wednesday:

  • did some background reading on previous joint attention studies conducted in a lab and what maternal strategies they used - this is so I can hopefully do a comparison of the strategies used in my study to show how they are not representative of everyday joint attention situations
  • I organised the results I had for this lab based research so far
  • I coded one more trial and got everything ready to do another one on Thursday
  • I did some more work on my presentation - getting all my sources and references ready

On Thursday:

  • re-edited my data plans after my supervisor looked over them - her feedback was really helpful!
  • coded my final trial for the project!
  • organised my data (we had to make some changes concerning pass rate and trial duration) - this all took me a while! But I feel a lot better about the data now!
  • did some more on my presentation - its all coming together now!
  • Tomorrow I have a meeting to discuss my stats! And then I'll start running them on Monday

On Friday:

  • I did some work on my presentation - the background is all nearly done now!
  • Had another stats meeting with my supervisor - I feel a lot more confident about running the stats now! We went through a practice example and finalized my data/research question plans
  • All my data has now been exported so I spent a lot of the day organising this!
  • I just did some preliminary descriptive statistics to find out the most common maternal attention directing strategies
  • I then started to set up the data for running in the spss (stats) software!
