As I pen down my experiences from the fifth week of my leadership field trip in Peru, I am stuck with a mix of joy, satisfaction, and a hint of nostalgia. This week was particularly meaningful as it marked the culmination of our hard work and the nearing end of our journey here.
Our Showcase
One of the highlights of this week was the event we organized for the volunteers at Casa Ronald McDonald. The event was designed as a volunteer gathering aimed at strengthening the sense of belonging among the volunteers. The day was packed with fun dynamics and games that not only brought smiles but also ignited a spirit of camaraderie. We included a session for volunteers to share their testimonies, which turned out to be incredibly moving.
No gathering would be complete without some lighthearted fun, so we also organized a karaoke session followed by pizza. The laughter and singing filled the room with an energy that reminded us all why we do what we do. It was a tangible result of our past weeks' work, and the happiness and connection I felt during the event truly underscored the impact of committed volunteer work.
The Art Market
Another enriching experience was attending a fair that was a collaboration between the Killa and Comunidad teams. This event showcased the art market featuring works from the women of the Amazon and the Shipibo-Konibo community. It was a vibrant display of culture and creativity that drew attention to the incredible talent these women possess. The fair not only provided a platform for these artists to get their work out there but also highlighted the importance of cultural preservation and support. Seeing the community come together to celebrate and support their own was a powerful reminder of the importance of solidarity and collective effort.
Final Thoughts
As my time in Peru approaches its conclusion, reflecting on the past weeks fills me with a sense of accomplishment and a touch of melancholy. The events we orchestrated this week have not only highlighted the strength of community and the joy of shared experiences but have also reinforced the profound impact that thoughtful leadership and dedicated volunteerism can have.
