Discovering Medellin was undoubtedly the best thing to come out of our first week with make_sense. Coming into this journey, I was largely uneducated on the context and the city of Medellin – but still extremely curious to find out everything I could about it. I have always enjoyed discovering new places, so needless to say I was very excited to immerse myself into my first Latin American experience. I greatly appreciate the fact that make_sense took us out to visit the city in the first week and allowed us to properly acclimatise to this new environment, all the while getting us introduced to the organisations and work we will be doing. It has been a long time wish for me to finally visit South America, and considering this was only the first week, I would say that is the most important outcome for me. Having the opportunity to expand my understanding of our world and its cultures is an invaluable aspect of this trip to me – and in general – so I am most grateful for the first week having been focused in that manner. Additionally, I found the preparatory work for our coming projects incredibly valuable, particularly considering the fact it is a relatively new experience for me. Getting to understand the way in which we will be expected to prepare, communicate, and work with our respective NGOs was without a doubt crucial for the weeks to come. Overall, I am very content with the preliminary stages of my leadership in action, and look forward to the further personal growth that I am sure will come out of this trip.
