It’s crazy that the fifth week of my LIA is almost over! In some ways, it feels like I arrived yesterday. In other ways, I feel the time that I’ve been here. This week, my team has been working on wrapping up our project with Platohedro. We helped to plan the promotions video for the campaign, our last social media recommendations, wrote Linkedin posts for the campaign, and schedule-sent DMs and emails for the organization. While I wish that I could have accomplished even more during my time here, I understand that a six-week project has serious limitations, especially considering the time that it takes to become somewhat acclimated to a new culture and its context.
I think that throughout this project I have learned the importance of taking initiative for tasks. If I wanted something to get done, I couldn’t just hope that someone else would take action. I had to communicate what I wanted done, or do it myself. I had to get over my fear of being pushy, or being “too much.” TL;DR: If you are working on a team project, you need to communicate.
I also wanted to talk about how grateful I am to have the opportunity to be here. I am so lucky to have an opportunity to explore somewhere new, work on improving my Spanish, and to be able to meet so many amazing fellow Laidlaw scholars. If anyone reads this and is contemplating their future LIA, I would highly recommend doing it with a group for safety and for the importance of learning to travel and work with peers.
