This week was eventful yet fulfilling. As I have just wrapped up my 4th week hear in Mexico City, not only has this experience been eye-opening, but remarkably fun at the same time..!
I started this week by spending some time in the Impact Hub, our office, on Monday on Tuesday. On Tuesday, we also had a meeting with our volunteers. This was great, as we got to make some progress on our work and on our prototype as a whole. We cover topics related to leadership style, skill, and methods at the Impact Hub with the amazing Keni and Aide (love you guys).
On Wednesday, we had a great day, as it was a visit from our organisation. Genera Territorios came to our office, and did a really insightful workshop with all the scholar cohort, which not only helped us with our understanding of our charity's mission, but helped the whole cohort understand it too. We have had visits from all the other charities, so although our one was last, it was nice to have it nonetheless.
On Thursday, we had a day off. So, on Wednesday evening we travelled as a group of 12 scholars to Las Estacas National Park, a wild lake resort 3 hours south of Mexico City. We stayed the night and we had such an amazing time, swimming, sunbathing, eating good food and making amazing memories as a team. We swam for hours, before taking the long return trip on Thursday night back to CDMX. Thank you to all the scholars who made this trip special.
After the long few days at Las Estacas, we continued (on very little sleep) our work by completing our field trip to Iztapalapa, a rural periphery just outside (45 minutes or so) of the city. This was a long day. Peter, Annie, Eve, myself, and the volunteers (and Aide, our saviour) spent several hours immersed in this community. Our hearts were full, we conducted a workshop to (approx.) 30 women, giving them financial advice to help them grow as a community. This was all conducted in Spanish, a huge accomplishment for me!!! We continued our tour by grabbing food, and going to an amazing community centre, too. We finished the day by going to an ecological conversation centre in the city, where we enjoyed the view at the top of the whole quarter. Annie and I also planted a tree. :)
This weekend, we went as a team to Luche Libre, the fighting/wrestling hosted here in CDMX. We also had an amazing boat tour this Saturday!
Thank you to all the amazing scholars, as well as Keni and Aide, for simply being the best. Bring on week 5!!!
