Leadership, The University of Hong Kong

Lia Week 5 Reflection

My reflection for the fifth week of my LiA at Timothy Smith Network, Boston.

What went well?
The progress I made; what was achieved and done

My fellow scholar, Luke, took on the main instructor role (after Alex took one last week), and the teaching process was successful. Transitioning into a supporting role gave me a chance to look at a bigger picture of our program, Digital Design Intensive, and other programs Tech Your Health and EAT. This time, I learned how Luke (DDI main instructor now), Nikko and Thomas (EAT), and Patrick and Joel (TYH) and how they structure their teaching schedule.

What could have been done differently?
Things that did not get done and/or could be changed
Overall, the classes went smoothly so there was very little room for improvement. Students faced challenges in website design, especially when it came to coding. However, we were able to assist the students in creating the website.

What did I learn about myself when working with others?
Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited
I learned about the values of supporting the leader. I found myself confused about my role at first. However, I quickly adapted by improving my learning speed and responsiveness to various situations.

What did I learn about leadership?
Leadership attributes and insights I developed

Through the shared responsibility of leading the sessions, I grasped the significance of providing support to others. Effective coordination and teamwork enabled us to overcome various challenges that arose.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?
What I still need to develop
Although I have adapted well to being in a supporting role, I would like to dedicate more time to understanding the needs of others and discovering how to contribute more effectively.
