LIA Week 3 (7/14-7/18)

As I transitioned into the third week, the momentum began to build. One of the exciting aspects of this week was representing SEGL at an Intercultural Dialogue session sponsored by the National Association of Independent Schools and the Institute for Global Leadership. At this conference, I helped our head of school and another faculty member model SEGL’s discourse model. It was an interesting spectrum activity where we gave participants a series of questions, and they used the room as a spectrum to identify their opinions. In addition to helping facilitate the spectrum activity, I also had the opportunity to answer questions from school administrators and teachers about how my SEGL experience has influenced my life thereafter, especially in college. As a student who attended the program and also had the opportunity to work there, I had a multifaceted perspective. I shared specifically about how the educational experience prepared me for Columbia, an environment where I would be faced with critical intercultural dialogue and pressing social matters. Representing SEGL at this session was truly a full circle moment where I was present in my role as a newly minted faculty member while still being able to value my experiences as a student.
