My second week interning with Dr. Hughes at the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation has been incredibly rewarding. Santa Barbara is as beautiful as ever (picture attached), and work has been extremely engaging. Just yesterday, we attended a City Council meeting to gain insight into procedural order. This way, we will be able to make plans to further the goal of making Santa Barbara a nuclear-free zone. A meeting for next week with a council member has been scheduled for this specific initiative.
One of the most exciting projects I'm currently preparing for is an event called Sadako Peace Day, a community event advocating for nuclear disarmament here in Santa Barbara. As the Master of Ceremonies, I will make the welcome remarks along with introductory statements about each of the other speakers. Alongside preparations for that role, I have been making progress in digitalizing the archives of the foundation and will get started in creating outreach materials for both past and future events.
