In Week 2 of my community engagement project I have connected with community members through in-person events and virtual meetings. On a normal workday I communicate with my coworkers digitally, using email and virtual meetings to discuss project goals. Some days I have been able to attend in person events, which I much prefer.
Many of the conversations were hard for me to follow initially. In meetings, people would throw around acronyms and names that I had no knowledge of. And to clarify, I was the only new member of the team. I asked questions when it felt appropriate but I also tried to figure some things out on my own, using the resources given to me. I feel like it is one thing to be told something, and another thing to figure something out for yourself. If we were discussing working with an organization I had never heard of, I wanted to form my own thoughts of the organization and its strengths before asking for the opinions of others.
