Today marks the end of my first week on the Make_Sense central project in Mexico City! This week has been a whirlwind of moving in, meeting the other scholars working with me in the city, getting acquainted with the closest coffee shops, walking the tree-lined streets, trying many tacos, and navigating the 3pm rain (which happens every day and which still manages to catch me off guard!).
I have been surprised by how easily I have felt settled here. Having a built-in support network through the other scholars has made settling in incredibly easy, and I already feel so grateful for the friendships we're building.
Beyond exploring the city and making new friends, I look forward to contributing to the meaningful and needed work of La Sabinas, the organization that I, along with four others, will be working for on this central project. Dedicated to providing psychosocial support to survivors of sexual assault and strengthening access to health and justice for girls, women, and gender-nonconforming people, I have been so inspired by the impact they are making within Mexico City and beyond.
I'm sure these next five weeks are going to fly by, and I look forward to making the most of my time here, from learning alongside the team at La Sabinas to continuing to explore the city. More tacos, more rain, and hopefully better Spanish coming soon. Stay tuned!
