Leadership in Action – Week 3
Gamifying Awareness and Facing Design Challenges
This week, I returned to supporting the Young Women’s Initiatives at BCF, and it has been one of the most mentally demanding parts of my experience so far. I’ve been working on a game booth for the upcoming roadshow in October that aims to target a younger demographic.
I designed a board game inspired by The Game of Life, but with a twist. It’s now focused on breast health awareness by simulating different lifestyle choices across various stages in young woman's life. As players move through childhood, adolescence, and adulthood, they make decisions related to health habits, screenings, and risk factors. The central idea is to encourage learning through a relatable and playful experience.
Bringing the concept to life, however, came with its own challenges. I had to think carefully about how the decision cards would be distributed, whether the gameplay might be too complex for booth facilitators to manage, and how to avoid spreading oversimplified or misleading information. Balancing clarity with educational value has been trickier than I expected.
To address some of these concerns, I’m considering developing a tablet version of the game. A digital format might streamline the process and make it easier to manage in a busy event setting. I’ll need to check in with my team leader before moving forward, but it feels like a promising next step.
This week also ended on a heartfelt note. The entire BCF team gathered for a farewell lunch to thank our General Manager who is moving on from the foundation. It was a lovely moment that showed how much care and community spirit runs through every part of this organization.
