Lia blog week3

I can’t believe we’re halfway through. I’m proud to announce that so far I’ve found no difficult to adopted to life in Uganda at all, and now it’s just another hometown for me.

The preparatory work for World Chimpanzee Day was proceeding in an orderly manner. Students were instructed to prepared varied educational material during World Chimpanzee week, including skits, dances, performances, models out of mud, also posters. And we’ll visit them to provide feedback and select the best school.

Ideally, our visits would take place from 3:00 to 4:30 or 5:00 PM and would include the following activities:

Wildlife Club Presentations: Each school’s wildlife club will showcase their preparations for Chimpanzee Day, featuring skits, traditional dances, poems, and songs. We will evaluate these presentations based on specific criteria, and on World Chimpanzee Day (July 14th), we will visit the two schools with the highest scores.

Games: We have organized two engaging games:

  1. Tooling Around: This game focuses on how chimpanzees use tools. Club members will race in teams to use a stick to extract as much honey as possible from a water bottle, mimicking how chimpanzees retrieve honey from trees or hives.
  2. Snare Races: This game educates children about snares—traps that can harm wild animals, including chimps. Four kids will race: two tied together with a rope, one jumping in a sack, and another running freely. They will race from one end of the field to the other to be the first to reach a banana. The child who is not hindered by a "snare" always wins, illustrating how snares complicate feeding and functioning for chimpanzees.

Presentations on Chimpanzees: We will include a general presentation about chimpanzees, as well as another focused on either their behavior or the threats they face.

Short Film: We will screen a film about a boy who saves great apes from poachers.

Except helping preparing preparation and resetting games, I also took the responsibility of photographer since I brough a professional camera here. Check those photos below!Career Day also took place in this week, aiming to introduce conservative career to children. Since it’s mostly taken part in local language to be accessible to children, my deepest impression on that day is the sunny weather and students’ smart purple uniform, which made the colors of photo very beautiful.
