Leadership in Action Week 6: Saying Goodbye…

GSBTB is on their summer break, so there’s no classes or programming until late August. Last week I said bye to Ava, a 5-year-old student. Teaching a young student in German was quite difficult and I was nervous at the start, but I learned to plan out the simplest/most straightforward way to explain things in another language. Her mom told me that she doesn’t know the alphabet yet, so rather than starting with the note names, I taught her how to play songs with numbers associated with each finger. She learned how to play “Hot Cross Buns” and “Mary Had a Little a Lamb”! Watching her learn and grow over the past few weeks has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my LiA, and it was bittersweet to say bye and tell her that I won’t be back after the summer break.
