Leadership in Action - Peru Week 2

A summary of the second week

This week, we became much more familiar with the different volunteer retention rates of the two houses and departments within Casa Ronald McDonald. In response to our questions, we were given statistics by the management to compare and understand the ages, educational background and composition of volunteers to start developing ideas for increasing retention rates. This was very helpful in grasping a deeper understanding of the recruitment process at Casa Ronald.

One exciting new challenge was meeting external volunteers who would help with the implementation of our plan for tackling the challenge, although I realise we could have improved in our communication and coordination with the volunteers at first. For instance, some volunteers needed some onboarding introductions as they were not fully familiar with our ideas and the exact situation in Casa. My teammate was also sick for one of the visits so I made sure to give her a summary since many new ideas had been bounced off.

At the end of the week, we decided to book a tour to visit the desert and oasis, where I tried sand boarding and sand buggies, truly an exhilarating experience.
