What went well?
The progress I made; what was achieved and done
Our group finally presented the 12-month infographics to Psychiatric Survivors Association in which we received extremely positive feedbacks and huge gratitude for our work. I am very grateful to have been involved in this internship which allows me to channel my mental health advocacy experience into real-work impacts in Fiji.
What could have been done differently?
Things that did not get done and/or could be changed
Lack of time preparation for the poster presentation as well as ineffective communication could be better addressed in the future. In our case, we finished our final powerpoint just 4 hours before the scheduled presentation, hence lacking in several aspects such as videos and/or pictures.
What did I learn about myself when working with others?
Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited
I learned that I am willing to take on more responsibilities when my co-workers are not able to complete their tasks due to reasonable reasons.
What did I learn about leadership?
Leadership attributes and insights I developed
Being a leader means you have to be thoughtful towards your fellow teammates’ problems and situations. Not being able to take on many responsibilities at a time does not mean he/she is indolent, there might be underlying reasons that you might have to comply as a leader of the group.
What do I want to develop or focus on next?
What I still need to develop
This 6-week internship has made me discover my strengths and weaknesses as a leader, for example, I have struggled with commitments and communications. Hence, I would like to improve these traits to become a better leader in the future.
