Leadership in Action (LiA) Week 4 Reflection - Think Pacific

What went well?

The progress I made; what was achieved and done

In week four, our group presented the assigned topics to our mentors, Lavenia and Naomi. We received positive feedback in which our presentation covered a diverse yet deep analysis of the effect of the global approach on Fijian lives. I also find the culture session of ‘Walking through a Fijian Market’ to be the most interactive and interesting session since I got to see how the market is structured and how it is similar to my country’s market.

What could have been done differently?

Things that did not get done and/or could be changed

I realized that our group lacked effective communication as our members were very busy with their other commitments. For example, two of four members did not know that we have set a deadline for the draft poster on Friday evening. As such, we have to postpone the deadline to Sunday evening.

What did I learn about myself when working with others?

Contributions, behaviours and values I exhibited

I learned how I stick to my values and integrity despite having different work cultures. For example, although some of the group members are deadliner, I always complete my task 1 or 2 days before the deadline to have adequate time for final revisions.

What did I learn about leadership?

Leadership attributes and insights I developed

Being a leader means you have to be a good example to your fellow teammates in order for them to follow your habit. If you want a workplace which has high work efficiency with minimal “deadliners”, you have to practice those traits in your daily lives as well.

What do I want to develop or focus on next?

What I still need to develop

With two weeks of internship left, I would like to maximize my poster contents and designs to meet the expectations of both Think Pacific and the Psychiatric Survivors Association
