Field Journal, Week 4
Research Developments
-
While all Laidlaw Scholars will be presenting their research at the Columbia Undergraduate Research Symposium in the fall, what are the more immediate expectations that you have for your research? Are you writing a paper? Will your research be part of a larger scientific study? Do you hope to produce an annotated bibliography that you reflect on down the line? Is your research now the first phase of a project you’ll continue to work on throughout the year, and/or next summer?
- Looking forward to the future of my research, I hope to create a paper that reflects the growth and development of my research journey this summer. I have been able to explore archives that interest me and turn them into tangible writing. I hope my paper expresses the different methods of exploration I practiced

Now that we are nearing the one-month mark of the program, please write about your expectations for your research.
- My expectations for my research are that it continues down a path of social media and archival digging. I hope to get better at creating running bibliographies and accumulating interesting sources.
-
Why does your research matter? Explain the significance of the question you are investigating and why you are interested in it.
- My research is important to the conversations about prevalent state violence against Black Americans. It focuses on humanizing such victims and unveiling the truth behind the impact of music on daily lives. By uncovering one's relationship with music, you get to understand better about their thought processes and way of living, before their life was taken.
