- How have the workshops and discussions on leadership this week changed your understanding of what leadership means?
The discussions on leadership this week have allowed me to realize that leadership comes with uncertainty; it is not always a straightforward path, but a journey that comes with many bumps in the road. Further, I learned what makes a leader successful is their ability to overcome these bumps and learn from mistakes made throughout the process. During my research, I have definitely encountered various difficulties that have led to misunderstandings, but by being persistent and by asking questions to my PI, I am confident that my leadership skills have grown.
- How might you imagine applying one model of leadership during your Laidlaw summer on campus—either within the Laidlaw cohort or beyond this community? While we often associate leadership and leaders with seniority, how might leadership be modeled among individuals who are among the youngest people on campus (i.e. you!)?
I have been able to apply leadership during this summer by helping some of my peers that have struggled with the writing portion of this project. As someone who has already written a research paper, I have gained skills that have allowed me to inform others on common mistakes and misconceptions that are part of the writing portion of this first Laidlaw summer.
