Exploring Ikigai for Health: My Summer Research Project

This summer, I am researching how an Ikigai for Health framework can support holistic well-being by integrating physical, mental and emotional, social, and spiritual health. The project aligns with SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being by promoting a holistic and preventative approach to health.

My project begins with a literature review on the different aspects of health to build a strong foundation for the framework. This research is informing the development of a questionnaire designed to assess multiple dimensions of well-being and help identify pathways towards improved health and well-being .

I am also developing a range of questionnaire outputs, supported by relevant research and evidence, to provide personalised feedback based on participants’ responses. The project will include collecting pre-test data and using quantitative analysis, likely in R, to evaluate the questionnaire’s reliability and validity. This will involve identifying overly correlated questions and highlighting areas for improvement.

My findings from participant feedback and pre-test results will be used to refine both the questionnaire and the wider framework.

Overall, I hope my project will promote a more holistic understanding of health and well-being and show how an Ikigai-centred approach can support more balanced and sustainable health outcomes.
