I worked with Professor Dennis Tenen to understand whether Instagram audiences are receptive to clear expressions of 'Asianness' or if the appeal of Asian influencers comes from their visual uniqueness in being people of color. In light of the recent online discourse about race surrounding police brutality and Black Lives Matter, studying the construction and expression of racial identity in digital spaces is crucial to better understanding race in western countries.
