Audre Lorde (1934-1992) was an American poet, essayist, and civil rights activist. A self-described โ€œblack, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet,โ€ she dedicated both her life and her creative talent to battling the injustices of racism, sexism, classism, and homophobia.ย
