Locating the Cultural Identity in Hong Kong-British Art and Literature

Cultural identity has never been more pressing to Hong Kong. The anti-extradition bill protests erupted roughly in the Summer of 2019 put the city's identity crisis in the world's limelight. Although my project started half a year before the anti-ELAB protests, it anticipates many of the issues which deeply affect and complicate the identity politics of Hong Kong people. My poster specifically focuses on a painting and novel made by two Hong Kong-British artists to explore the third space and post-orientalism which the postcolonial city still ostensibly grapples with.
